DIVERGE STORY
Our Story
Diverge means to move apart or take a different path. In optometry, divergence is the coordinated outward movement of the eyes when you shift your gaze from something close to something farther away. You do it every time you look up from your phone and across the room. That simple shift is where our name comes from, and it captures how we approach care. Sometimes you have to look farther out to see the bigger picture.
The meaning behind our symbol
The Diverge symbol is made up of three connected spheres that form a branching pathway. Each sphere represents one part of a process we use throughout life: Vision. Decision. Action.
Imagine walking down a trail. You see a loose rock, decide where to put your foot, and step around it. As you move, your view changes, and you take in new information for your next step. The same loop plays out when an athlete reads a defender and changes direction or when someone navigating a busy store adjusts their path as people move around them.
The three spheres are connected because those steps are connected. What we see helps guide what we decide. That decision shapes how we move. And every movement changes what we see next.
How that shapes our care
Dr. Paul Brewer founded Diverge Performance in Boise, Idaho, to bring that bigger picture into neuro-optometric rehabilitation and sports performance. We look at how the eyes work together and how the brain combines what you see with information from your inner ears, muscles, and joints to guide balance and movement.
We start by asking what you want to get back to or get better at. That might be walking through a grocery store comfortably after a concussion, feeling steadier when you turn your head, or picking up the ball sooner so you can make the next play. Your answer helps us decide what to assess, what to train, and how to measure progress in the places that matter to you.
